SAR’s renowned Indian Arts Research Center offers residential fellowships each year to up-and-coming indigenous artists. Robert Mirabal, a musician, poet, and painter from Taos Pueblo, was a Wagner Native American Artist Fellow. “[SAR] gave me the opportunity to experiment and take my talents in new directions,” says Mirabal. The year after his fellowship, Mirabal won a Grammy Award for Best Native American Album of the Year. Mateo Romero, a Cochiti Pueblo artist and activist who was a Dubin Fellow at SAR, became a Featured Artist at the internationally renowned Santa Fe Indian Market. “My experience at the School,” Romero declared, “changed my life.”
